I want to preface this post with a couple things…
1) MaltaMama is not designed to be a complaint forum, despite that this post is actually a complaint
2) I love the Malta Community Center!
When I originally saw the information about Café Malta at the Malta Community Center I was very excited! A coffee-house experience literally in my backyard! (if you know where my house is, you’d realize that is actually true). I thought the format was good: feature several local musical acts, some even Malta residents. They were seeking audition candidates a few weeks ago, and I even posted about it to show my support! At that time, I really didn’t read up about the details.
Wouldn’t this have been a great ‘free’ event to offer the public, residents and non-residents who may have never even seen the community center? Couldn’t you make money by selling oh, I don’t know, COFFEE and various deserts at a ‘coffee-house’? To my dismay, the community center decided on an admission fee of $6 per person (advance only) and $8 at the door. I’m not trying to cheap out, but c’mon, for me, hubby, and Robby to go, we’d be paying $18 or $24 if we decided day-of? Granted the event is not geared toward children, but if the format were more casual, it would be a lot of fun for the kids to go and hear some live music at our (tax-payer funded) Community Center! I may sound like a hater, but the truth is, I really like the community center! I just wish that this event was more family-friendly and free.
I wish the event a lot of success. I’m sure the musical acts have worked hard to prepare, and I hope more people than their immediate families attend. If you go, please let me know how it is!
Have a great weekend everyone, see you on Monday!
