Shop the sale!
There are some very good deals to be had right now at  They always have an 'overstock' section of their site, but at this particular time there are some great items for low prices.  As an example, in the picture the rain boots are $17.99, lunch bag is $4.99, and sandals are $9.99.  Sizes are limited but I was able to fill my cart with plenty of items.  Don't forget to browse for yourselves too :-)  Though they sell Lands' End stuff at Sears, they never have a good selection for kids and definitely don't have the 'overstocks'.

Did you pick up anything on sale?  Let me know by commenting or emailling me:

Yesterday Robby and I ventured into Ballston Spa to check out the Village Sweet Shoppe.  My trip was all business; research for MaltaMama of course!  While I was there though, the smell of fresh chocolate, beautiful displays of candies, and loads of my fave crave gummy candy begged me to sample!  How could I possibly provide my readers with an accurate review of the VSS without (over)indulging?  Let’s just say I took one for the team and tried a few things, all of which were delicious!

Village Sweet Shoppe has a huge assortment of chocolates, bulk candy, gummy’s, sugar-free stuff and lots of Easter treats.  They will do custom orders and favors for showers, weddings, etc. I purchased several nicely packaged Easter goodies which will hopefully not get eaten before Sunday!  They have two small tables in the front windows, perfect for people-watching while you pig out on candy.

Their regular hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10am-5pm.  Find them at 24 Low Street, downtown Ballston Spa.  Down the street from the library and across the street from Wiswall Park.  Call 518-885-4165 for more info.  Great stop if you're in town.  Also check out Whistling Kettle Tea Lounge while you're there!

I hope everyone had a great weekend, despite the weather being very cold!  This week looks great, so we're looking forward to some fun outdoor activities.  Need a park?  Shenentaha Creek Park located on Eastline Ave in Malta great place to go!  They have a playground for kids, basketball courts, tennis court, pavilion, and a wonderful paved bike path that leads to Round Lake and beyond!  if you go now, you can't actually drive into the parking area yet, but there are spots outside the gate and you can walk in.  I'll let you know when they officially 'open', but we've already been a few times this year and love it!  Here are the directions:
From the Northway (I-87):  - take Exit 12 and proceed West on Route 67.  - at stop light of intersection with Eastline Rd, take left.  - park will be on the left hand side, less than 1/2 mile.

On Tuesday, 3/30 the Clifton Park library has a movie program for preschoolers, ages 3-6.  Starts at 10:15 and is a drop-in program.  Call 518-371-8622 for more details. Visit Clifton Park Library online

Fun on the bus trip!
Top: Robby and I waiting for the bus
I decided to give in to Robby’s ‘bus obsession’ and took him on a trip to Saratoga and back on the CDTA bus yesterday.  There’s a route for us Saratoga County people despite the fact that few of us actually use the bus line.  I went on the CDTA website and found that our route started at the Malta Community Center and went straight up to Congress Park in Saratoga.

We caught the bus at 1:10pm, paid our $1.50 fare, and were pestering the ducks in the park by 1:25pm!
We played in the park, went to Uncommon Grounds, danced to the guitar player on Broadway, visited the library, and caught our return bus at 4:35pm in Congress Park.

It was a fun way to spend the afternoon and something different for Robby to enjoy.  I was prepared for the occasion with a backpack full of snacks, milk, water, camera, jacket, etc.  The $1.50 fare is for an adult, children under 5 are free.  I can definitely see us taking the bus again, especially in the summer when traffic and parking are hellish in Saratoga.  I love that it picks up and drops off right at the Malta Community Center, although you have to wait on the other side of the road by the sidewalk.  The route I took runs Monday thru Friday.  I recommend giving a bus trip a try!

Baby Revolution sale
Ok bargainista's, this one's for you.  This weekend is the Baby Revolution Consignment Sale in Albany.  This sale is supposedly higher-end stuff, although I can't say that from personal experience, only what I have heard.
Though it starts Friday, March 26th, the public days are Saturday the 27th from 12pm-4pm and Sunday the 28th (1/2 price day) from 9am-11am.  The sale takes place at the Beltrone Living Center event space, off of Wolf Road in Albany.  Get complete directions here.  Happy sales!

This may seem kind of dorky to post about a picnic table, but my family recently found this one at BJ's Wholesale Club in Wilton and it is fantastic!  You've all seen the big plastic kids picnic tables (probably at a garage sale!) that last maybe a season or two.  This table is by Lifetime (they make good quality folding tables/chairs, etc).  This table is 22lbs. and holds up to 90 pounds on each bench.  I didn't know that and sat my butt down and the table didn't even buck.  (for the record, I am no where near 90 pounds.)  I love that it folds up nearly flat for easy storage.

In any case, you can order the table on BJ's website for $69.99 but you can also get a free 60-day trial membership at BJ's starting now until July 5th.  This table is definitely worth considering if you do a lot of outdoor entertaining or eating.  Let me know if this type of post is helpful or just plain dorky!

Ben & Jerry's
Ok everyone, today is big:  Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry's!  Get your cone from 12-8pm at any location.  Our closest location is in Saratoga on 34 Phila Street.  Check this map here for another location in Troy and one in Albany if you find yourself in either of those neighborhoods.

That's not all for today folks.  For you studious types, the Waldorf School of Saratoga is having an open house on Wednesday, March 24th from 4pm-6pm.  Get info on their early childhood program, grades 1-8.  See their website for more details.  You probably won't catch me at the open house, but you can bet that I will be (at least once) waiting in line for my ice cream at Ben & Jerry's.  Happy Tuesday ;-)

On April 3rd, an Easter Egg Hunt or 'egg-stravaganza' as they're calling it will be held at the Malta Community Center.  Festivities will include crafts, a visit from the Easter Bunny and the egg hunt.  Light refreshments will also be served.  Kids are asked to bring their own easter baskets to collect the eggs.
Pre-registration is required by Monday, March 29th.  You have a week left, but earlier the better!
Session I is 9:30-10:30am
Session II is 11am-12pm
both on Saturday, April 3rd.
Cost is $5 for residents, $6 for non-residents

To register, stop by or call the Malta Community Center at: 518-899-4411
Or print and fax/mail the form found in this Winter/Spring 2010 Brochure

It's Restaurant Week!
If there's one week to try a new dining establishment, Restaurant Week is it!  For one set price ($20.10) you get a three-course meal; appetizer, entree and desert at participating restaurants throughout Saratoga County.  I am happy to see several Malta/Ballston Spa eateries participating such as Bentley's Tavern, Fifty South, Primo Pizzaria, and Cliffs Country Inn.  Shout out to Lake Ridge in Round Lake.  That would be my pick!  Here's a complete list of participating restaurants

Saratoga County Restaurant Week starts tonight, Friday March 19th and ends on Sundady, March 28th.  You have time, but don't put it off too long!  Find a sitter and get out and enjoy a dinner.  The price does not include tax/tip.
